As most of you know, last weekend was Phi Delt's Casino Night. Like most people who were going, I was really looking foreward to going to the "biggest party of the year". Everyone who I talked to said that they are going as well and they can't wait to see what it turns out like. For me, as well as the rest of my party, the party was a disaster.
While I had fun with my friends at dinner before the event, the actual event was terrible in my opinion. The lines to get checked in were rediculously long and very unorganized. When I finally got to the front of the line with my date, the woman said that I had only bought one ticket for the two of us. I knew right away that this was wrong because I had purchased my tickets a month ago and still had the receipt in my email account. The lady said that there was nothing she could do and that I had to go to the back of another line to prove that I had in fact bought two tickets. Needless to say that between this and the long lines I was very frustrated. As our group of 8 people finally walked inside, the party was a dismal let down. All of the gambling tables were taken and the room was filled with a bunch of drunk students as well as parents. I can honestly say that the only highlight of the night was the band, who did not start playing untill 11:30. Needless to say that if anyone asks my opinion on whether or not to go next year, my suggestion would be to save your $90 and go out and do something that you would enjoy.

HAHA I think that this post is pretty funny. I have heard for many people how amazing this event is and like you I was very let down. It was fun getting dressed up and going to dinner, but I am not sure why the event cost 90 dollars. They formals my own sorority puts on seem to be alot more fun, and they are free! If the 90 dollars I spent on my ticket did not go to a philanthropy I would have been pretty upset, but sense it did go towards a good cause I am ok with it. I would say to everyone though that you should at some point in your four years at SMU attend it. You have to experience it yourself I think.
I'm sensing a contradiction here--from what you and Mustang have said, there wasn't much to experience. Uh, are you seriously recommending it? Well, at least the kids and their parents got to have a good time getting drunk together.
I am not recommending it at all. The party was all hype and failed to deliver. Even though it was by far the biggest party I have been to this year, it was also the worst party I have been to. The only fun I had was spending time at dinner with my girlfriend who goes to school out of town For the price of the tickets, there should have been much more to do. If the money for the party wasn't going to cherity, I would go to phi delt personally and demand a $90 refund for my ticket.
I actually thought Casino was a blast. I went with a group of my friends and some of our dads. I was told to arrive early, so we got there around 10. I gambled, listened to music, and danced. To your comment that it was a bunch of drunk kids and parents, what where you expecting? It is the "biggest fraternity party of the year." Most people would think of that as an opportunity to drink a lot. I personally was not drunk at all and I still enjoyed myself. If anyone where to ask we whether they should go...I would highly reccomend it. It is a great event that raises a lot of money for charity.
